TACH ADAPTER
TACH ADAPTER
The MSD Non-Current Limited Ignition Tachometer Adapter solves the common problem of inaccurate tachometer readings when using MSD CD ignition boxes with aftermarket or vintage tachs. Many tachometers are designed for conventional inductive ignition signals and produce erratic readings or no reading at all when connected to a high-energy CD ignition output.
This adapter converts the high-voltage CD ignition trigger signal into a clean 12-volt square wave pulse that any standard tachometer can read accurately. It operates on any 6, 7, or 8 series MSD ignition box and works with both analog and digital tachometers. The adapter is potted in a compact 1.5x2-inch epoxy housing with color-coded pigtail leads for power, ground, signal input, and tachometer output. It draws less than 50 milliamps from the 12-volt system.
You'll get smooth, bounce-free tachometer readings from idle through redline, eliminating the needle flutter that drives tuners crazy when diagnosing shift-points. Installation requires connecting four wires: power, ground, tach output from MSD box, and tachometer input — typically about 15 minutes with basic wiring tools. Mounts anywhere with double-sided tape or a screw.
Don't trust an inaccurate tach to protect your engine at 7,000 RPM. Install the MSD Tach Adapter and know exactly where you're shifting.
