COMP Cams 733-12 COMP Cams Titanium Valve Spring Retainers
The COMP Cams 733-12 COMP Cams Titanium Valve Spring Retainers are precision valve spring retainers designed for high-RPM valvetrain stability. Retainers lock the valve spring in place at the correct installed height while transferring spring force directly to the valve stem through the keepers. Lightweight retainers reduce reciprocating mass, allowing higher RPM operation without valve float.
Machined from 6AL-4V titanium and hard-anodized for wear resistance, these retainers weigh approximately 6-10 grams each. The 7-degree keeper angle provides a positive lock with standard and heavy-duty valve locks. The retainer includes a hardened spring seat for consistent spring pressure distribution across the spring coil. Each retainer is inspected for concentricity and surface finish to ensure proper keeper engagement and spring alignment. The reduced weight compared to steel retainers (typically 8-12 grams lighter) significantly reduces reciprocating mass.
Reducing valvetrain mass with titanium retainers is one of the most effective ways to increase RPM capability without increasing spring pressure. Every gram removed from the retainer reduces the force required to accelerate and decelerate the valve, reducing component stress and extending valvetrain life. Combined with titanium valves, the weight savings can reduce required spring pressures by 30-50 lbs while maintaining the same valve float margin. This reduction in spring pressure also reduces camshaft lobe wear and valvetrain friction.
